Drum
Scanner
a type of optical scanner where the reflective or transmissive
art is mounted to a rotating drum. As the drum spins, light from
the image enters a lens allowing the image to be recorded as a series
of pixels.
Continuous
Tone
an image that consists of a visually infinite tonal range
of colors or gray values. Value changes appear as a continuous gradient.
Generation
Loss
the loss of quality that is unavoidable in any type of analog
duplication such as an internegative. Digital images do not suffer
this loss of quality when duplicated.
Interpolation
a sampling technique used to increase the size of an image
file by creating more pixels and increasing the apparent resolution
of an image. Interpolation examines the existing pixel information
and creates additional pixels by averaging the existing value.
